A sharp drop in oestrogen levels is responsible for triggering menopausal symptoms. Research suggests Black Cohosh may help alleviate these symptoms through its influence on brain function, possibly by modulating serotonergic pathways, or via its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, or selective oestrogen receptor modulating properties.
Studies have shown that Black Cohosh helps reduce hot flushes, night sweats, anxiety, and mood swings. In a German study involving 629 women, over 80% experienced improvement in physical and psychological symptoms within four weeks. Although its oestrogenic effect is still debated, Black Cohosh contains triterpenes and flavonoids believed to act on the pituitary gland to suppress luteinising hormone (LH), often elevated in menopausal women. High LH levels are associated with hot flushes, night sweats, headaches, heart palpitations, and vaginal dryness.

Black Cohosh also helps balance hormones, making it beneficial for managing mood swings and stress during PMS or menopause.
